Sport Medicine

is a comprehensive and holistic discipline that addresses health and wellness issues involving physical activity and sport. Sport Medicine specialists are physicians who have acquired expertise and certification in the care of active individuals. Many Sports Medicine doctors have a background in Family Medicine, which trains them to assess the whole patient, throughout all stages of life. Particular areas of expertise include exercise prescription, injury evaluation and treatment, disease prevention and treatment through physical activity and health promotion through exercise. Sport Medicine physicians may also have expertise in nutrition and lifestyle issues, such as stress management. These skills often bridge the gap between the Family Physician and the Orthopedic Surgeon or other specialists.

Chiropractic

is a non-invasive, hands-on health care specialty that focuses on treatment and preventative care for nerve, muscle, and joint complaints. Our doctors employ highly skilled joint manipulation, various muscle/soft-tissue treatments, and other physiotherapy procedures. Many elite athletes use regular chiropractic care to aid with performance enhancement prior to competition and to begin the restoration, regeneration, and recovery process after a competition.

Physiotherapy

The heart of physiotherapy is in understanding how and why movement and function take place. Physiotherapists analyze the impact of injury, disease or disorder. They promote, restore and prolong physical independence by enhancing a functional capacity of the patient.

Massage Therapy

is the treatment of the soft tissues (muscles) of the body. The treatment aim is to maintain or improve movement as well as reduce pain and stress. Therapeutic benefits of massage include increased circulation to promote healing, decreased muscle tension to relieve pain, increase flexibility, and the relief of cramps and muscle spasms.

FAKTR-PM

(Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab, Provocation, and Motion) was developed to help speed recovery from acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain syndromes. Chronic pain results from dysfunction of the sensori-motor system, which is manifested in soft tissue and fascia. This new treatment approach to soft tissue dysfunction combines instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization with proprioceptive techniques to reduce pain and return function. FAKTR-PM has been used by many Olympic and professional athletes. www.faktr-pm.com

The procedure allows the doctors to reach deep into the soft fibrous tissue to work out the kinks. www.grastontechnique.com

Kinesio Taping®

involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion. This enables the individual to participate in their normal physical activity with functional assistance. www.kinesiotaping.com

Low Intensity Laser Therapy

is the application of light that accelerates healing by restoring normal cell function. It jump-starts the body’s natural process by sending energy into the muscles and joints that’s then transformed into biochemical energy. LILT triggers the release of endorphins, morphine-like substances that inhibit the sensation of pain. It also increases the formation of new blood vessels. This is non-invasive, painless and highly effective healing tool for children and adults. www.theralase.com
